DESIGN
AND IMPLEMENTATION OF WEB BASED RECRUITMENT SYSTEM
This
work is aimed at developing a web-based recruitment process for Human Resource
(HR) Company; Human Resource is the department of a business or organization
that deals with the administration, management, and training of personnel.
Abstract
This
work borders on the designing and implementation of a web based
recruitment system for a human resource company. The traditional method of
recruitment has been revolutionized by the emergence of the Internet. The
motivation for carrying out this study arose from important issues in the
traditional recruitment system such as cumbersome filing, difficult retrieval
of information and absence of a centralized database to store this information.
This research work designed a web based recruitment system to proffer
solution to such problems. The adopted Methodology in developing the
recruitment system is the Structured System Analysis and Design Methodology
(SSADM). SSADM is a waterfall method for the analysis and design of information
systems. The waterfall model is a sequential development approach, in which
development is seen as flowing steadily downward (like a waterfall through the
phases of Requirement Analysis, design, implementation, testing (validation),
integration, and maintenance. The new system will be able to provide a
centralized database for storage and retrieval of data, reduce administrative
workload in the recruitment process, provide data mining tools to locate
applicants from previous hiring, reduce the cost accrued in the recruitment
process and minimize time consumed in reviewing resumes.
1.1 Statement
of the problem
Thousands
of job seekers Queue every day for recruitment into various organizations. The
process of seeking job is such a huge task that job seekers have to go through
various processes before they can be recruited.
Companies
and Human Resource personnel have made great in-roads and improvements in the
area of recruitment and candidate selection over the years. However, the
traditional recruitment process is still costly and time-consuming for both
employers and job seekers. The following are common problems encountered in the
traditional recruitment process;
- Cumbersome filing and retrieval
due to incompatible source of information.
- Time-Consuming manual
screening and reviewing of resumes.
- No centralized database
for information storage and retrieval.
- No data-mining tools to
locate candidates from previous hiring.
- Heavy administrative workload
in the traditional recruitment process.
- Hiring expenses become
higher and hiring lead-time is much longer.
1.2 Objectives
of the study
The
objective of this study is to develop an e-recruitment system that will:
- Create a centralized
database for storage and retrieval of data.
- Substantially reduce
administrative workload in the recruitment process.
- Minimize time consumed in
screening and reviewing of resumes.
1.3 Scope
of the study
This
project is limited to a web-based recruitment system. This is focused on the
web-based features that could go a long way in protecting the real idea of a
recruitment process in an organisation.
Some
of the features of this system are:
- It should contain all
information of the company and the vacancies available.
- It should accept all
information of job seekers like personal details, professional details and
educational details etc.
- Interview applicant online
- Processing and evaluating
applicants status for employment.
- It should be able to alert
job seekers and job providers when the right person or applicant is chosen
for a job.
1.4 Significance
of the study
This
project intends to complete the following:
- To enable applicant search
for, and apply for position in an organization with ease.
- Make the recruitment
process for an organization online.
- Severs as a boost to other
computer science students to reach and build recruitment process system.
- Enables experts flex less
muscle while recruiting prospective employees.
