DESIGN AND IMPLEMENTATION OF ONLINE RESOURCE LIBRARY SYSTEM

This project work shows the implementation of a practical resource library where books are been made available in soft copies, An Online Resource Library System is a formal collection of information, stored in digital formats and accessible over a network, together with associated services. The role of an online library is essentially to collect, managed, preserve and make accessible digital objects.

Abstract

An Online resource Library system is a formal collection of information, stored in a soft format, where students or users can have access over the network, together with associated services. A repository service for storing and managing digital objects, the electronic resources solve storage problems and control the flood of information, print sources are being digitized. This project work shows the implementation of a practical resource library where books are been made available in soft copies, the users can have access to the library from anywhere and any point in time, it serve multiple numbers of students/users at same time. It comprises of several modules developed with ASP.NET C#. The administrator of the system is responsible for adding and managing of e-books in the resource library system, while the users/students browse for books at their conveniences.

1.1        Statement of the Problem

The following problems are encountered in the existing library systems:

1. Users are restricted only to the physical books available in shelf.
2. Limited numbers of persons can use the library at any point in time.

1.2        Objectives of the Study

The objectives of this project are:

1.   To develop software that will make books available in soft copies.

2.   To develop software that many users can make use of the same book at any point in time.

3.   To develop a software that the users can have access to the library from anywhere.

1.3        Significance of the Study

The significance of the online resource library system is that it would encourage readers and provide convenience. Students, researchers and readers would have access to books at any point in time; users can easily search for books on different categories with the book name.

1.4        Scope/ Limitation

The project work is limited to the development of an online resource library system that can serve multiple users, such that the users can make use of books at any point in time.
