UCIDSS GRADUANDS ADVISED TO SHUN NEGATIVE VICES

Graduating Students of the University of Calabar International Demonstration Secondary School (UCIDSS) have been advised to shun vices inimical to their academic advancement.
The Vice Chancellor of the University of Calabar, Prof. James Epoke gave the advice during the 15th Graduation Ceremony of the school for the 2014/2015 academic session held at the University of Calabar International Conference Centre in Calabar.

Prof. Epoke stated that the students should guard against negative influences like cultism, prostitution, robbery, and pick pocketing which stigmatizes the society urging them to be rather respectful and humble.
He commended the serenity of the school environment which has enabled the students attained great feat in their academics, and thanked the school management and the Board of Governors for an excellent job in grooming the students.

Presenting a speech, the Principal of the University of Calabar International Demonstration Secondary School, Dr Kingsley Bekom Abang welcomed guest to the occasion, describing the occasion as an opportunity to take stock and to look into the future.

Dr Abang said the school is living up to its mission statement, which is to provide an environment for the acquisition of requisite knowledge and skills for effective, mental, social, spiritual and physical adjustment in a rapidly changing world.

The Principal enumerated successes recorded by the school between January 2015 to date to include 1st position in the 2015 UNICEM Safety Debate, the Bee Competition among Secondary Schools, Debate Competition which took place in Port Harcourt, and the SAGE Team which came first in Socially Responsible Business category.

Dr. Abang used the opportunity to appeal to the Governing Board of the school to resume work on the hostel project, the completion of library project and the transformation of the school buildings to be like the new administration block.

In a graduation lecture, the Deputy Director, physiotherapy Department, University of Calabar Teaching Hospital, Therapist Emmanuel Ekechi who spoke on the topic, “The place of Aerobic in Human Development” defined Aerobic exercise as any exercise that trains the heart, lungs and cardiovascular and musculoskeletal systems to process and deliver oxygen more quickly and efficiently to every part of the body.

He stated that such exercise which enhances brain health, improvement of Aerobic performance, weight control and prevention of obesity must be long term with low intensity of not more than 10 minutes.

While noting the dangers of obesity to include; menstrual abnormalities, reproductive problems, heart size and functions, arthritis clout and hypertension, he enumerated the benefit of aerobic exercise to include, lowering the risk of dying prematurely from heart diseases, reduction in the risk of developing diabetes by enhancing glucose tolerance and insulin sensitivity, as well as enhancement of lubrication of joints.

In a remark, the Chairman, Parents Teachers Association Comrade Ralph Akpogieye, congratulated the Graduating Students, and urged them to be good ambassadors of their alma mater.

Comrade Akpogieye, urged the Graduating students to keep the flag flying, and always identify with their  alma mater as Alumnus.

Speaking, the Board Chairman of the University of Calabar International Demonstration Secondary School, Prof. Florence Obi congratulated all who have made the day a success by putting in their time and resources to achieve excellence.

Prof. Florence Obi who was represented by the Board Secretary, Barr. Maxwell Eba commended the school management for the colourful ceremony and urged them not to relent in upholding the glory of the school.

In a valedictory speech, the overall best student, Master Adediran Enoch Boluwarin attributed his success to the Almighty God, his teachers and parents.

The occasion, featured presentation by the SAGE Team, Cultural Dance presentation, cutting of Graduation cake and presentation of Awards to some deserving students.
