The Vice Chancellor of the University
of Calabar Prof. James Epoke has commended the effectiveness of students
Industrial Work Educational Service (SIWES) Programme as a beneficial tool for
students.
The Vice Chancellor who was
represented by the Deputy Vice Chancellor Academic Prof. Maisie Etukudo made
the commendation at the SIWES Second Zonal meeting which was held at the Senate
Chamber of the Institution.
Prof. Epoke thanked the National
Universities Commission (NUC) for bringing such benefiting programme, stressing
that the purpose of SIWES is to achieve a positive outcome on the future lives
of undergraduate of this great citadel of learning.
He commended the SIWES coordinator of
the Institution Dr. Felix John Eze for his laudable efforts and urged the
participants to relax and take the programme serious.
Also speaking, the Area Manager,
Industrial Training Fund (ITF) Calabar Zone and chairman of the meeting, Mr.
Oluwasemire expressed appreciation to the Vice Chancellor, Prof. James Epoke
for the warm reception despite his busy and tight schedule and also for the
opportunity giving them to hold their Second Zonal meeting in the University.
Mr. Oluwasemire, warmly welcome all
the participants present and appreciated the new SIWES coordinator Unical for
the innovations found in the SIWES environment as well as his kind gestures in
hosting the meeting.
According to the University of
Calabar SIWES Director, Dr. Felix John Eze, the programme is meant to interact
with National Universities Commission (NUC), and Industrial Training Fund (ITF)
officials, various coordinators and stakeholders of all Institutions concerned.
Dr. Felix Eze explained that the
basics of SIWES Programme in all tertiary Institution by NUC was established in
order to train students on their relevant courses so as to build an effective
and efficient practical knowledge.
