DESIGN AND DEVELOPMENT OF A UNIFIED
INTERACTIVE NETWORK SYSTEM
ABSTRACT
Despite the fast growing trend and
popularity of social networking sites across the globe, FUD still uses the
traditional method of communication between the lecturers and students and the
university community in general, and this method has a lot limitations and
shortcomings, and at the same time not effective. It is therefore, in the light
of the above, this research titled “Unified Interactive Network System” is
aimed at designing and developing a social network site for FUD lecturers and
students, that will serve as a platform where information and messages can be
posted, academic materials/archives be uploaded and downloaded accordingly;
simply because academic issues and problems are now being extensively discussed
online. Unified Interactive Network System is a user friendly system, that
allow users to communicate with one another simultaneously. This research focus
attention to an academic Social Network Site which when implemented will
immensely going to help both lecturers and students in simplifying the way
users communicate between themselves and at the same boost students’ knowledge
by participating actively in the an academic question and answer forum, where
student can post a question, and if answered he/she will receive a short
message (SMS) alerting him/her that his/her question has been answered, he/she
can therefore log-in and view the details. Moreover, the site contains numerous
academic/educational resources and archives such as: lecture notes,
presentations, seminars, past assignments, tests and examinations question
papers of all the previous sessions, etc. just to mentioned but a few. All
these are available in the digital archives section of the website. This system
is designed in such a way that it can be accessed online through an active
internet connectivity. Hence, the interface is developed using HTML, PHP, CSS,
Bootstrap framework, some technical tools, and the Structured Query Language
(MySQL). The system has reserved a high storage space for both storing
information in the digital archive section of the site, thereby enhancing
effective and efficient access of these voluminous resources among the teeming
users.
