The Head Teacher of the University of
Calabar Staff School (UCSS) Mrs. Florence Omini Eleng, has appealed to the
University Management for the provision of Infrastructural facilities to ease
the smooth operation and administration of the teeming population in the
school.
Mrs. Eleng made the appeal while
presenting her welcome address during the 31st Graduation and Prize Giving Day
of the School, held at the School Multi-Purpose Hall.
Mrs. Eleng who thanked the Vice
Chancellor for his support to the school, enumerated areas the school still
requires urgent attention, to include; completion of abandoned P.T.A Project to
ease the increased population of pupils in various classrooms, provision of
Primary Science and Agricultural Science Laboratories, repairs of collapsed
portion of the perimeter fence as well as conversion of present buildings into
storey building to meet with the present Architectural design.
Others include; provision of school
bus to ease movement of children to locations of ceremonies, provision of good
drainage system with adequate carrying capacity as well as provision of a
parent facility for Unical Staff School.
The Head Teacher used the occasion to
call on Stakeholders to live up to their collective responsibility and
mandatory role in children's education, in order to make the world a better
place.
In a remark, the Vice Chancellor of
the University of Calabar, Prof. James Epoke commended the staff for the
quality of education made available to the pupils and the heights attained in
service delivery.
Prof. Epoke advised members of staff
to shun vices like truancy, lying, forgery and pretence which might be emulated
by the pupils.
On Parent Teachers Association Funds,
the Vice Chancellor assured parents and teachers that it will be judiciously
channeled to appropriate quarters for use.
In an address, the Chairman, Board of
Governors, Prof. Simon Utsalo commended the patronage of the present
management, headed by the Vice Chancellor, Prof James Epoke for sparing no
resources towards the development and maintenance of infrastructure and the
provision of learning resources, adding that several generations of our
children who have passed through the Primary education Institution, are well
equipped to face new challenges of contemporary educational skill technologies.
Prof. Utsalo advised the graduands to
be proud ambassadors of their alma mater and urge them to leave no room for
doubt, by giving their best at every opportunity in their educational mile
stones.
In a remark, a representative and
secretary of the Unical Staff Multi-Purpose Cooperative Society, Mr. Adariku
commended the School management for the giant strides attained, and urged them
to keep up the feat.
In an address, the Coordinator,
Reuben Agu Foundation, Mr. Reuben Agu described education as a vital component
which needs to be promoted at the Foundation level, adding that if a foundation
is not strong, a structure cannot stand.
Mr. Reuben advised the pupils to
continue to study hard in the next phase of their academic pursuits as dreams
are not made a reality except through hardwork.
The occasion featured graduation of
58 pupils, presentation of Awards to some overall best pupils, in subjects
like; Mathematics, English Language, Christian Religious knowledge, Music,
Literature, Basic Science and Integrated Science.
The colorful ceremony featured
presentations such as; Drama, Recitation by Grade II, Cultural Dance and a moot
Environmental Court of Justice by Grade 5 Pupils as well as Debate.
