Buhari Fires CSO, Admin Officer

The battle of supremacy between President Muhammadu Buhari, backed by the Nigerian Army, and the Department of State Security (DSS) in Aso Rock Villa recorded two major casualties on Saturday.

This follows the sacking of the President’s Chief Security Officer (CSO), Abdulrahman Mani, and Administrative Officer (AO), Widi Liman, both officers of the DSS.

It is believed that both men were removed from their duty posts for acts allegedly “undermining” the principles that the President hold dear.

A source informed Daily Independent that the development did not come as a surprise, following the squabbles between the president’s top security handlers soon after he assumed office on May 29th.

Trouble started two weeks ago when Buhari’s Aide De Camp (ADC), Mohammed Abubakar, ordered officers of the DSS acting as close body guards and security to the President out of the Villa, and replaced them with officers of the Nigerian Army Intelligence unit.

This did not go down well with the CSO who issued a counter order asking the DSS to return to their duty posts, insisting they were better trained and lawfully designated to provide close body protection for a civilian president.

The CSO however, found it difficult to fully enforce his own directive and the cold war lasted and got to a head on Saturday.

The CSO and AO are charged with enforcing discipline among the DSS officers in the Villa are believed to have played roles in the saga which a source told Daily Independent that the President was not comfortable with.

With the ADC having succeeded in booting the DSS officers out of close proximity to the President to the chagrin of the CSO and AO, the source explained that it was only a matter of time before the axe fell on the latter.

No official communication or statement has been issued by the presidency on the development, but it was gathered that the CSO has immediately been replaced.

A replacement is still being awaited for the AO, who used to be a security detail to former FCT Minister and now Kaduna state governor, Nasir el-Rufai.
